Last week, DFWAIGA’s DesignWeek hosted the “Design for GOOD Challenge: Part 1″, moderated by GOOD Cities’ Alissa Walker. Three of Dallas’ urban leaders from DART, Dallas Parks Foundation, and the Office of Economic Development presented priority challenges to a room full of creatives from diverse disciplines at the Dallas Center for Design. The three challenges are: promoting the use of DART Rails and growing their commercial activity, spurring economic development in underutilized neighborhoods, and improving wayfinding and awareness of the 110 miles of trails in Dallas.
focusEGD team members selected the wayfinding challenge (Connect the Dots: Hike + Bike) because the scope is exactly like the project challenges they solve on a daily basis. Team leaders Robbie Good of focusEGD and Brian Murphy of SubjectMatter, aided by the counsel of Mr. Sam Stiles, Director of Economic Development for Dallas Parks Foundation, head up the group of multi-disciplined professionals who have training and experience in architecture, engineering, graphic design, and marketing.
This week team members from focusEGD, SubjectMatter, RTKL,Freese and Nichols and CIS Studios joined by Mr. Stiles held their kick-off meeting at focusEGD’s studio. The working lunch was an opportunity to familiarize the team with all the trails and the existing branding/signage at the trails, and to look at the needs of the proposal.
With a successful kick-off and scope establishment, the team will be using BaseCamp for project management and discussion. Thrilled with this opportunity to give back tot he community, the team will be presenting their final proposal June 6th live. More details to come.
