The new Parkland Hospital is set to open it’s doors this week, beginning a transition from the current 50 year old facility to the new 2.1 million sq. ft., 17 story facility. At 6 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, the Rees-Jones Trauma Center, Emergency Department, Urgent Care Emergency Department and Labor & Delivery services in the new Parkland Memorial Hospital will open for business at its new location, 5200 Harry Hines Blvd. Simultaneously, the current hospital will stop receiving new emergency patients and those arriving for care via ambulance will be taken to the new location. Parkland staff will continue to care for all patients in these departments at the current facility until the last person is treated.
As part of the partnership of Mitchell/focusEGD, our team provided services including Wayfinding Master Planning, Exterior & Interior Signage Design, Brand & Vendor Standards and Donor Recognition. Features of the design included icons, bi-lingual messaging, and nature themes. In compliment to the latest in healthcare technology, the wayfinding utilized digital displays and other technology throughout the hospital to enhance the environment of healing. Historic features such as the JFK Memorial and Parkland’s long and storied history have also been integrated into the space.
