Parkland Health & Hospital System first opened its doors in 1894 and is now one of the largest public hospital systems in the country. Through the support of donations and other gifts, the health system is able to provide support for more than 1.2 million patient visits annually. With the recent completion of the new hospital housing over 850 patient beds, this Level I Trauma Center recognizes an extensive support community. This community is recognized in various locations throughout the new facility. One of the most visible recognition pieces wraps the facility with the names of the people of Dallas County who gave in support of the new building. These names form branches and leaves to display a large tree, an illustration of the support for the new hospital.
